Album Recommendations

Postby theRazor » Fri Feb 26, 2010 4:20 pm

Hey all,

I'd like to add some new groups to my music selection, and I figured you guys would have some good recommendations. But instead of just recommending names of groups or individual songs, I'd like people to recommend whole albums that they thought were excellent as a whole unit; first because a few good songs do not a good album make, and second because I seem to take to a group a lot better if I have an entire good album by them than if I just listen to things at random.

So what are one or two of your favorite albums (preferably ones you think I'd like though I leave that mostly to your imagination)?

Well, when it comes to albums, my favorite is and probably will always be In the Aeroplane Over the Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel. That's always the one that comes to mind when people mention albums because I feel like it's really well-thought out in terms of being a piece of art from beginning to end.

My second favorite is Andrew Bird & The Mysterious Production of Eggs by Andrew Bird. It's one of his more light-hearted albums in terms of sounding more pop and less folk, but I really enjoy listening to this one from beginning to end as well. I'm a sucker for albums with introductions that actually work with setting up the album as a whole. However, most people I've recommended Bird to either really like him or don't like him at all. Instead of listening to the full album here, I would recommend checking out a select few songs first--"Sovay," "Fake Palindromes," "Opposite Day," and "Tables and Chairs" are a pretty comprehensive range of music from this piece. Everything else is unique, but I think this combination of songs really embodies his sound, at least on this album.
I've long stopped wondering why you don't answer.

It's All Crazy! It's All False! It's All A Dream! It's Alright - mewithoutYou, but just because I'm recommending them to everyone.

Agree with Jude's Shpongle.

Also The Wall by Pink Floyd, obviously.

If you're into early 20s bipolar sexual frustration with some of the greatest lyrics ever, ...Is a Real Boy by Say Anything is probably my favorite album of all time :).
