I am starting a death panel...

Postby jesus was gay » Sun Aug 23, 2009 1:02 am

The people who will be put to death will be the people at the town hall meetings yelling and screaming like the idiots they are. I will also add FOX news to the list, they are just as idiotic and contradictory as the other idiots.

yes. Shouting down your opponent rather than working with him to produce something useful for the people is indeed idiocy. They are doing nothing but hurting the very real need for a balanced restraint in government healthcare spending.

edit: sure it does, Flib. Recent obstructionist politics? Where else would we put it?

On the contrary. . .Fox News is what's keeping free speech alive in this country. :-P They're a classic example of people, networks included, possessing the freedom to express their own views. I'd have no problem if a completely ridiculously biased liberal news network came along. . .they've got the freedom to do so.

The only reason Dems hate Fox so much is because they're sore losers because they CAN'T produce good quality liberal media entertainment. ;-)

In other words, Fox "News" is conservative media ENTERTAINMENT.

1. Entertainment is not news.
2. Fox News's motto is "fair & balanced" and yet it's covering only the conservative site?
3. I don't think the other media are "liberal" enough. To me, they are still rather conservative.

I agree that people who go to meetings intended to solve problems and instead "yell and scream" instead of discussing the issues are in fact idiots. However you have to look at why it is occurring. The current administration has been pushing through legislation that is extremely unpopular with a vast segment of the population. These include a stimulus bill that put us another $787,000,000,000 in the hole on the national debt (that's about a trillion dollars if you don't feel like counting out the zeroes), and seem to have had very little impact on the economy compared to the amount spent. An attempt at a comprehensive energy tax in a time of economic downturn that could very well push us into economic ruin if we aren't already in it (and would have made it worse if we are), and a health-care reform bill that promised it would only compete with private health insurance providers and would not add to the national debt but in reality, as admitted by President Obama after it fell through, would have essentially replaced the private providers with the public through provisions "snuck into" the bill supposedly unbeknown to obama. All of this in the first year of the administration, especially as radically left as the legislation is, is an absolute shock to the public of a center right leaning nation. The grassroots movement is the result of this shock and is the backlash of public opinion against a government that is obviously not working "for the people, by the people". As an economic conservative myself (if you couldn't tell from my views), I view the public unrest at the antics of this administration with some degree of satisfaction, because it really is deserved. I don't think that riots and violence are by any means the answer, and in that respect the people who protest at the town hall meetings are in the wrong, but contrary to being put to death as you propose (jokingly I hope lolz), I think the government should take it as a sign that the American People are NOT on board with what they are doing, and stop trying to transform the U.S. into a full blown socialist system.

Yes, some parts of Fox news can't be called straight reporting by any means. Glenn Beck is the primary example here, he is first and foremost an entertainer. However entertainment can be and is in many cases informative. Also he will be the first to tell you that he is NOT a journalist, he has no formal education in the matter and doesn't profess to present his arguments without a conservative bias.

I think it's really interesting that Liberals are so hostile towards Fox news though.. Obama and especially liberal bloggers attack it on a pretty regular basis.. It's almost like.. they don't want people to be able to express their views freely when it doesn't fit into their own views? You have to take into account that while Fox news definitely puts a conservative spin on its coverage (naturally since it is run by conservatives right?), much of the media is liberal. In my american government book, though I don't recall the exact statistics, the largest portion of journalists affiliate themselves with liberal ideologies by a wide margin, and thus puts a liberal spin on it's stories. Examples of this are MSNBC, who I haven't seen seriously cover the controversies of the Obama administration yet, and the Huffington Post, whose liberal leanings are very clear. Aren't they "Idiotic and Contradictory" too?

Aside from the Onion News Network, I am not a fan of any news network. Fox News is just the worst offender.

I'm reading a book for a class called "The Irresistible Revolution" by Shane Claiborne.. and it's really making me rethink my conservative view of economic issues.. If you look at it purely economically, Capitalism and deregulation seems has skyrocketed the U.S. ahead of pretty much every nation in the world.. (That is until we decided that our economy is invincible and began to freak it all up with irresponsible spending), but socially it seems to be lacking to some extent as evidenced by the inhumane treatment of workers by corporations, (see "fast food nation" by Eric Schlosser) and the poverty experienced by much of the rest of the world to feed our rampant consumption. Seeing as how I've been conservative most of my life this is all pretty confusing XD.

The Onion and Colbert Report are my favorite spots to get unbiased, extremely accurate information about the world.

You need to also read Noam Chomsky and Naomi Klein.
